The hotel star rating, absent from the hotel industry in Israel for more than 20 years, was voted back in by a Knesset committee this week.
In a move designed to reduce the prices of hotels in Israel, these new ratings will ensure hotels are ranked according to a number of criteria, including breakfast, fitness rooms, children’s activities, quality control, and swimming pools. These changes are expected to take some eight months to implement, but will be ready for the 2013 summer season. They won’t be applicable to the large number of guest houses (known as zimmers) or apartment hotels now available throughout Israel.
